“Someone’s sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.” – Warren Buffett

Time is the only resource that can never grow. This second article talks about how in NS, time is truly yours to cherish. You decide if every minute equates to wealth, or not!

1. Time is Yours

People always have the wrong mindset that NS takes their time away. The positive way of thinking should be that NS is a golden launch pad to success. This is because the two years given can be maximized into days of reflection, weeks of visualization and months of planning. Claim ownership of your free time to define your life purpose, draft a life plan and execute your goals.

Also consider the immediate future after service ends. Within the two years, apply for desired institutions, scholarships and/or part-time or full-time employments. Do not miss deadlines, especially in the second year of service.

2. Time is Wealth

Every day in the 730 days can indeed be literally converted into wealth growth, be it knowledge wealth or monetary wealth. For a wealth of knowledge, you can challenge yourself to attend XX number of quality investment seminars, or complete XX number of books regarding wealth growth and alternative income sources.

Whilst for monetary wealth, strategies range from saving immediately to spending less, as well as total negligible spending and even starting your first investment.

3. Time is Precious

Prior to NS, you are advised to study hard for it will affect the vocation assigned to you. It determines how large your allowance can and will be. While in NS, you can still work hard to strive for a better vocation so as to earn larger allowances.

While planning for the future, do not neglect affairs of the heart. Family time is important and there is no literal cost. Besides, home-cooked dinners are more meaningful when you do not have it as often as you used to. These two years truly encompass other kinds of reflection like on your holistic well-being along with providing and being present for your loved ones too.

If you waste your free time idling in NS, you are responsible for the dire consequences. The two years are already set in stone for you. Why not make the most out of it to impact you academically, financially and mentally? Time prior to returning into camp, staying in camp and leaving camp can be organised to educate and/or fund you.

Lastly, do not take your free time prior to enlistment or returning to camp for granted. Know that your educational level affects your NS allowances and that time spent with loved ones also affect the social and emotional support you received during turbulent times.
